Slices on my Mind! SOL 2013: 11 0f 31

Slice of Life is sponsored every Tuesday by Stacey and Ruth from Two Writing Teachers.  For the month of March we are challenging ourselves to write a slice every day.

It's a dangerous time!  After dropping hubby at the park and ride, I headed for home.  I sat at a stop sign for several minutes before realizing it wasn't a light and would never turn green.  Thank goodness no one was behind me.  What was the source of my distraction?  I was working on today's slice, composing in my head!  I find myself distracted all the time by ideas for slices as I drive, eat, shower, or drift off to sleep, hoping that I'll remember the idea long enough to get it on paper or typed into the computer.

In order to become a safer driver, I'm doing a brain dump of slicing ideas:

Dad's lunchbox
Drones
Genetically modified rice
Daffodils
Collections
Hubby's vault
Weathermen
1.3 & 1.9 people
Surrounded by comics
Lifted up
Embracing poetry
Time travel with a nut bowl
Leah time on the horizon
The princess of a little bit
It skipped a generation!
Guests galore
My life in a bag
The three G's of slicing
A quest for color
Less clicks, more happiness!
My pink bedroom
YCC

How about you?  Do you find yourself distracted/consumed/overwhelmed by slicing?
Share your strategies for giving this endeavor a place on the couch without letting it overtake the room.

  1. Yes..overwhelmed and my husband keeps quiet because he wants to be supportive...but I know he's wondering how he will be able to put up with my endless chatter about it all, for the whole month. xo

  2. What's my next slice is an all consuming occupation of my mind this month. My eyes are darting everywhere, how can I turn what I see/hear into words that will engage my reader. No special tricks, just jot when I can and take a photo to remind me. Good luck!

  3. Yes, I do the same thing. I have a list I made when I first decided to take the challenge. I have only used a few on the list, because something usually happens that gets me to writing. I like Elsie's idea of taking a picture to remind me. Will have to try that. Jackie http://familytrove.blogspot.com/

  4. I do! I haven't made a list, but I'm constantly thinking through the day about what to write about next.

  5. In March composing, reading and commenting on slices definitely takes over my life. Thank goodness there is a week of Spring Break in here. I love your idea of making a slice of slice ideas. May I steal?

    1. Certainly, most of what I do is inspired/borrowed from my fellow slicers.

    2. Thanks for asking the question that was on my mind, too. I keep leaving little notes to myself in my slices already. It's probably time to make a list!

  6. Yes, it's addictive...one cannot be caught without a slice to write! Love the idea of a list...if only I were that organized....

  7. I'm totally with you on this one! The other day, I was getting a relaxing massage and instead of letting my mind drift off to sleep, I was composing a poem I would later write on my blog in my head. I love your list of slice ideas, and I cannot wait for you to write about "1.3 & 1.9 people"...what's that all about?!? Thanks for putting to words what I feel everyday. :)

  9. I can't agree more--I'm always thinking about what to slice about and often feeling overwhelmed. But at the same time, I always look forward to it at the end of the day!
