Celebrate This Week!

Join us each weekend for Celebrate This Week with Ruth Ayres.
When we pause to celebrate, we find the joy.
Discover. Play. Build.
A week filled with moments to celebrate and remember!

1.  It's turn the calendar day!
I love turning over calendar pages to a new month.  It's exciting to see a new photo and to ponder the possibilities of August.  I'm trying to savor the moments and stretch myself to accomplish a few things before school starts.  Yes, I'm retired, but heading back for September to finish up the last month of a colleague's maternity leave.

2.  Dinner at Sara's and Will's place and an evening walk!
Even though the heron was hiding, we did spot this mother duck and her ducklings.

3.  I met Shelly for lunch and shopping (Target, Trader Joe's, and Costco)!
She recommended The Crimson Field,  a BBC production available online at PBS.
I can't wait to watch Episode 2 today!

4.  The Blue Angels are in town for Seafair!

I've listened to their screams from the security of my deck (avoiding the crowds)
and even managed to capture a couple of pics.  These are stay-at-home days for me.  I still remember the year I ventured east for a quick run to Costco. Even though I could see the exit sign for East Merer Way, I was in bumper-to-bumper stalled traffic
on I-90 for the duration of the air show.

5.  I read three MG books in July!
Unusual Chickens for the Exceptional Poultry Farmer by Kelly Jones
is part of my planned chicken trilogy for the summer.
Love, Ruby Lavender was June's chicken read.
Next up is Chicken Boy by Frances O'Roark Dowell.
I may need to expand my trilogy since Ms. O'Malley,
the librarian in Jones' book, mentioned three more chicken books.
I've added Lost in the Sun and Circus Mirandus to my list of Newbery possibilities.
I just finished Lost in the Sun last night and can't stop thinking about it.
I've surveyed my stacks of WTR (want to read) books
and the winner for next read goes to . . .  drum roll, please . . .
 Echo by Pam Munoz Ryan!

6.  DC trip to visit Stefi and Blake is rescheduled from Labor Day to Veteran's Day!

  1. Love those little ducklings. You have a special place to walk! And love the air pics, but understand about staying home. When things like that happen, our highways back up too! I have Lost In The Sun, but will read it later for a book group in September; so many have loved it! Enjoy Echo-it's fabulous. It is so tied to music that many have said the audio is better, FYI. I may need to re-listen! Only read the print one. Happy Weekend, Ramona!

  4. I always get excited when the blue angels are around - blue herons too. Finding birds like those ducklings out and about is fun. Have a great time reading!

  5. Having a planned chicken trilogy is so clever and the idea just cracked me up.

  6. July has been filled with pleasures, my friend - so I can see why you happily turn the page and look forward to more! Loved the picture of the ducks - you are always on the lookout for beauty.

  7. The summer seems to be flying by, Ramona. I am feeling the August heat and if you are going to DC then you will feel it too. My daughter says that DC is steamy this summer. Did you consider sending in an offering for my newest gallery, http://beyondliteracylink.blogspot.com/2015/07/celebrate-summer.htmlSummer Splashings?
