SOLC 2016 10/31: How I Got to "Ready Now"!

Today I join my fellow bloggers in "serving up a slice"
to the Slice of Life (SOL) community.
Thanks to Stacey, Tara, Betsy, Dana, Beth, and Anna
for hosting this meeting place each day in March
and for nurturing our writing lives.

Ready now to head upstairs for treadmill time so I can watch "A Place to Call Home," but
Before that, called my son-in-law to sing "You've Had a Birthday"
Before that, discovered and borrowed this format from make.share.give
Before that, arrived home from school to read and comment on a few slices
Before that, sang "Happy, Happy Birthday" to Weston
Before that, interrupted an admin meeting to share cookie bars which were gladly received
Before that, learned how to take a screen shot of book covers (I do love learning something new.)
Before that, visited Melissa's room for volunteers to work on March Book Madness bracket
Before that, watched the drama students warming up in Emily's room during planning time (They were displaced by registration orientation in their space.)
Before that, continued lit circle work and lesson on making strong claims in argumentative writing with afternoon block
Before that, shared the cookie bars with colleagues at lunch
Before that, enjoyed 6th grade lunch and lively conversation
Before that, repeated lit circle work from the morning with a different group
Before that, asked for volunteers in Ex-Core to create mini posters for the March Book Madness bracket bulletin board
Before that, worked with students to create an acronym for the four components of a strong claim:  Pres. FDR:  Pick a side, Focused, Debatable, Reasons
Before that, transitioned to Social Studies and a great lesson on claims in argumentative writing
Before that, looked at student notebooks for evidence of using a variety of reading strategies
Before that, scanned the classroom and smiled with satisfaction at the books being read for lit circles
Before that, conferenced quickly with Emily, Bruce's team teacher about the day
Before that, ate breakfast, packed my lunch and was out the door by 7:30
Before that, packed the cookie bars I made last night for my teaching friends
Before that, read a few slices (I'm totally addicted) and left some comments
Before that, rise and shine at 5:30 to prepare for subbing in Bruce's room today

  2. You've been busy! Fun format to try...we usually don't go back through a day with such detail. I like it-now maybe I'll try too.

    1. Oh, Tara, nothing that my teacher friends don't do every day. But for this retired gal, it was a busy day.

  5. I like this backward look at your day. Such a practice causes us to reflect on the many tings to which we devote our time and attention.

Can you teach me "You've had a birthday"? I'd like to sing that to a few people! :)
