SOLC 2016: 16/31 A Guest at Book Club

Today I join my fellow bloggers in "serving up a slice"
to the Slice of Life (SOL) community.
Thanks to Stacey, Tara, Betsy, Dana, Beth, and Anna
for hosting this meeting place each day in March
and for nurturing our writing lives.

It was a typical Tuesday afternoon at Books, Brownies, and Beyond. Students dashed to the library to check out new books from the March Book Madness book list.  Students perused the books that I bring to book club, a mixture of picture books and novels to entice a variety of readers.

Our big focus for the day was to create a bulletin board for March Book Madness to showcase the book brackets.  I dashed down to the workroom with two students so they could make the letters for March Book Madness.  And then it was time to put up the sweet sixteen titles, eight fantasy books and eight realistic books.

Only there seemed to be a lot of clock watching going on.  You see, everyone was anticipating the arrival of a certain guest.  And then we received a phone call that his arrival would be postponed by an additional ten minutes.  Finally, the time was right for his arrival. and a member went out to greet our guest and escort him in for a  visit to book club   His arrival was greeted with many oohs and aahs and lots of taking of photos.  One of his first responses was to dash under the table and hide.  However, that shyness passed and soon he was darting around the room much to the delight of our entire book club.  You may wonder about the identity of our esteemed guest.  He's a 4.6 lb. bundle of black energy that was universally liked by everyone. And yes, Brutus, the pug, may become our book club mascot!

  1. Haha! I was expecting a TALL guest to go with the March Madness theme. Looks like the short guest won a lot of hearts.

    1. No, Carol, he belongs to a member of our book club. But we think that Brutus makes a perfect mascot for our group.
