SOLC 2016 9/31: Simple Pleasures

Today I join my fellow bloggers in "serving up a slice"
to the Slice of Life (SOL) community.
Thanks to Stacey, Tara, Betsy, Dana, Beth, and Anna
for hosting this meeting place each day in March
and for nurturing our writing lives.

With a  decision made to write about a simple pleasure, I google simple pleasures, and discover this delightful quote from a favorite author on a blog post at Ciarrai Studios:

"After all," Anne had said to Marilla once, "I believe the nicest and sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens, but just those that bring simple little pleasures, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string."
- Anne of Avonlea by Lucy Maud Montgomery

And so begins my story of a simple pleasure I enjoyed this morning.

I dash to the laundry room because my towels are still in the dryer from yesterday's laundry.  I push the dryer button "on" and head into the kitchen for a quick breakfast and reading and commenting on a few blog posts (my March addiction).

Breakfast finished, I grab the towels out of the dryer, ball them tightly and drop them into the laundry basket of clean clothes.  I head straight to the shower, shower quickly, and step out of the shower into one of life's simple pleasures:  hot towels.  And that, my friend, is the perfect way to start a new day.

What are the "...simple little pleasures, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string" that make your day?

(I miss the gas heater in the bathroom from my childhood home.  I know it was a fire hazard, but your towel hanging above it in the winter was always warm and so was the bathroom when you stepped out of the shower.)

  1. What a lovely quote! Hot towels really are the best. My simple pleasure is hearing my two-year-old read Brown Bear, Brown Bear to me every night :)

  2. Often European hotels have those lovely warming bars for towels, that's a happy discovery (when I'm there). I loved that quote and the visual I get of pearls slipping off the string. One of my simple pleasures is enjoying a small York peppermint pattie after dinner every night.

  3. I love Anne of Avonlea! My simple pleasure is heated tiles in our bathroom! We never hooked up the initial tiles, then we had some water damage resulting in new floors. We had the contractor hook up the warm tiles and it is so heavenly! I love the simple pleasures.

  5. What a simple pleasure of an idea, Ramona. I have radiators now, so if the heat is pumping away when I bathe, I drape the towel over for after. But that doesn't always happen. My simple pleasure is getting ready for bed, gown and robe on, face washed, but I don't go to bed, just settle in to read or write. So glad you found that "pearly" quote. I love Anne of Green Gables!

  7. When I saw that you wrote about a quote from Anne of Avonlea I thought, "I'd better read this. She must be a kindred spirit." My simple pleasure is reading with my son before bed and then reading or writing myself.
