Celebrate This Week & NPM 2017 Day 1!

Join us each weekend for Celebrate This Week with Ruth Ayres.
When we pause to celebrate, we find the joy.
Discover. Play. Build.
A week filled with moments to celebrate and remember

We finished the March Slice of Life Challenge

I slept until 6 am.  I've created a new (bad) habit in March of waking
in the wee hours (think 2 or 3 am) to write.

It's April!  Time for playing all month long with my
Poetry Friday friends on the poetry playground.

I love how my writer friends influence my life for good.  A post from Tara that mentioned Jane Kenyon's poetry led me to request several books of her poetry from the library.  I discovered
"Let Evening Come" while flipping through the small book of poems with the same title.  It's brought comfort to me this week as I've struggled with the unexpected death of a friend.

I'm participating in the festivities of poetry month by allowing myself to be me.  I may or may not post every day.  I don't have a theme.  But I will show up most days to share a favorite poem or book or link to a poetic post I loved.  And I'll be sharing poetry all month long with Books, Brownies, and Beyond.  This week we'll wander through the school to post poems everywhere.  I'm subbing half a day later in the month for a friend and asked if I could "do poetry" with her students.  She said, "Yes!"
(I do love a captive audience.)

Jack and his parents and friend Sara will be here soon to join us for comfy church on Saturday.  It's General Conference weekend, a twice yearly tradition, when we attend church from home as we watch the leaders of our church share inspirational messages.  Many of the best talks are centered around story.  It's always a call to "try a little harder to be a little better."   And we're having waffles with strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries during the break between sessions!

It's become a bit of a tradition for me to celebrate a blue sky pic
(they have been a rarity so far this year).
Here's a friend's tree in bloom backed by blue sky
and the yellow forsythia I stopped to snap
from the window of my car!

The Teddy and Jack pics for the week feature my boys outside with their dads.  Teddy was at the park with his parents and Jack and his parents were at the University of Washington (with half of the Seattle population) to see the cherry trees in bloom on a rare sunny afternoon.   Jack weighed in at 13 lbs. 5 oz. for his 2 month check.

Have a delightful weekend!

  1. I like your thoughts on participating in poetry month...by allowing myself to be me. It certainly eliminates the pressure of writing everyday again for a second month. Beautiful pictures of spring, especially that pink and blue! Have a great weekend.

  2. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. A long-time friend of mine passed away a month ago, my age, from college, a shock. Hard to imagine saying goodbye to my peers. Love your blue sky pics. Forsythia is the most beautiful spring brightness for us, isn't it? My students used to post poems all around the school, too. I'm glad to hear that you are doing it! Finally, those boys are getting cuter and cuter. Happy you have them! Enjoy your weekend, Ramona!

  3. So sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. Those seem to be coming way too frequently for me! My poetry project fell through on Thursday, and I'm trying to decide if/how I will participate. Might end up doing it like you are this year. As always, I love the pictures of your sweet, sweet grandboys! Cute, cute, cute!

  4. OOH, more baby photos. The boys look very happy with their dads. Once you showed your spring photos I had to grab them for the soon-to-be announce spring gallery. I was hoping that when you are writing poetry, you might offering an image poem for the gallery. With poetry on your mind, you should be full of joy. BTW, your comfy church weekend sounds like a great idea filled with inspiration and comfort food.

  5. I do love the blossoms of spring --lovely in your pictures-- and it seems we have all waited so long for them this spring. May your heart know comfort in the memories of your friend. And thanks for sharing Kenyon's poem.
