A Cheer for Day One
Every year I wonder
if I can possibly do it again
and then I show up!
No particular plan in mind.
No posts written ahead of time.
I'm here to reassure the pantsers
(those who fly by the seat of their pants)
that this elephant of a month of writing
can be tackled one day at time,
one slice of life at a time.
Life provides the stories.
Slicers provide the inspiration.
Your stories are waiting.
Show up every day and write.
You can do this!
This is my fifteenth year participating in the March Slice of Life Challenge, writing every day during the month of March. Thank you, Two Writing Teachers, for creating this challenge and providing the space and support for us year after year. And thanks to this magnificent community for sharing stories with me and encouraging my writing life.

Cheers to joining the challenge again this year!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! I look forward to reading your slices again this year. I loved how you shared, "Life provides the stories. Slicers provide the inspiration. Your stories are waiting." Yes! I look forward to trying new formats and gaining inspiration from fellow writers. :-)
ReplyDeleteWow, shout out to 15 years. I hope I can make it to 15.
ReplyDeleteNo matter how hard I try not to be a pantser, I still count myself in that category! You have so many lines that resonate with me. I am hoping that my life will still "provide the stories!"
ReplyDeleteRamona, I'm chuckling because I identify with so much of what you wrote and see the humor in the ways we all come to the buffet of March writing across so many strategies and mindsets. How wonderful to be back, sharing life and stories and all the ways of thinking about approaching a challenge.
ReplyDeleteRamona,
ReplyDeleteAd one Pantser to another: You got this! I know each day will bring the stories!
Great words of encouragement for all. I admit that I am a panster as well. arjeha
ReplyDeleteFellow pantser here! I never know how I'm going to write for the month, but somehow I do. Glad to be on the journey with you again this year!
ReplyDeleteI love how you are diving in - Ramona. I always feel like I have to have a plan - but I never stick to it! I always learn so much from you, Ramona - I can't wait to read your posts this month!
ReplyDeleteI'm "15" this year too and definitely a fellow pantser. Looking forward , as always, to hearing your thoughts come through your words.
ReplyDeleteHi, Ramona. I just remembered that we were going to video chat but I have been so exhausted from this bereavement journey and every other bump in my road that I have not had the time. Hope we get some time from this slicer month. Your 15 line poem added some wisdom for new and old slicers.
ReplyDeleteNeeded to read this today Ramona - thank you! Fellow 'panster' here definitely feeling the weight of the elephant but more than anything inspired by your 15 years of dedication!
