Today I join my fellow bloggers in "serving up a slice"
to the March Slice of Life Story Challenge community.
Thanks to Stacey, Betsy, Beth, Kathleen, Deb, Melanie, and Lanny
for hosting this meeting place each day in March
and for nurturing our writing lives.
My alarm is set for 7, but I wake up at 5:45. I reach for my computer and decide to read a few slices before writing my own. I know this is a rabbit hole that I can fall down and lose track of time, so I set an alarm for 13 minutes. Yes, I'll comment until 6:10 and then I'll write my post. The alarm goes off, I turn it off, and return to finish a comment. And the next time I look at the clock, it's 6:33. So where did the 23 minutes go?
Well, I found Johanna again. She's one of those slicers who had commented on one of my posts, but clicking on her name did NOT lead me to her blog. Somehow, I contacted her and told her that I couldn't find her blog and she gave me her address. But still, days later, I hadn't returned to her blog to leave a comment. Was it an email that she sent me? Yes! I searched my email account and there was her address. I left a couple of comments - Done!
I commented on several posts for today.
I rewrote a name acrostic that I will use for a future blog post.
I thought again about the three bloggers that I'm really missing this year. I wish each of them the best, knowing there are many reasons that keep us from writing. However, I'm hoping they'll show up again soon for a Tuesday Slice of Life.
- b who always signs her posts with the words, write on.
- Amy, who was on my list for welcome wagon when she first joined SOL, and always inspired me with her fun posts. She has the best posts about her rabbits.
- and beachpapers from Australia who gave me perspectives from her part of the world.
I'm remembering when our group was much smaller, but so thrilled to have so many people participating in slice of life and writing every day.
I'm really planning to keep my promises to myself. I think my inability to succeed at this promise is because I'm an obliger who needs outer accountability in order to succeed. Time to quit writing and post my link before my Sunday morning alarm goes off!
I enjoyed reading this and I share many of your feelings. One, the rabbit hole that this challenge creates! But that is a good thing- to get lost in time responding to our fellow SOL writer's pieces. I am sure you agree. I also really liked how you shared your old "friends" who aren't slicing this year. I have a list also of writers I was following, that I miss. I hope they know.
ReplyDeletePerfect - I keep falling into the hole as well but what a wonderful adventure it take me on. Like you I am so happy that there is a great group of people writing but I am sad that there are so many good posts that I am just not getting to. So many interesting people writing interesting things. Amazing community! Love that you were up early reading and writing today.
ReplyDeleteEarly morning here too :) I miss the smaller group. In this reality you are really forced to pick and choose. But it's a success, right?

I know exactly what you mean about the rabbit hole. I'm so glad my work in school is finished for the year so I have time to respond, but yet I feel exhausted by trying to read so many slices. I know the three that are missing. There are several others that I enjoyed that are not here too. I'm just glad so many are writing, but I worry that they are not getting the comments to fuel future writing.
ReplyDeleteI would love to hear more about how you were able to contact that blogger that had commented on you, yet clicking on her name didn't take you to a blog. There have been so many times I've wanted to reach out to people who took the time to read and comment for me, but I can't find them.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a rabbit hole, and I am in it right now! ;)
Luckily I have some time to go down the rabbit hole since I’m on break during two weeks of the challenge. I end up reading many more slices than I comment on... I feel kind of bad about that.
ReplyDeleteMe too! It's "a rabbit hole that I can fall down and lose track of time." ... Funny connection that popped into my head: March #SOLSC and idiom "mad as a March hare"... and your "rabbit hole" ... and I will not pursue that chase any further. Work is waiting on my desk.
