Poetry Friday: Poetry Finds at the Library Book Sale!

Sylvia Vardell at Poetry for Children is hosting
this week's round-up of poetic goodness. She has
news of her latest book with Janet Wong, Great Morning!

I worked at our library book sale from 6 - 9 pm on Thursday evening. One of the benefits of volunteering for the book sale is looking through the bins when things are slow and selecting books for me and for my daughter. I'm always extra excited when we find poetry books in the bins. Here are the books I purchased yesterday.
And here are three poems for summer days from Shel Silverstein's
A Light in the Attic:

Here's hoping you'll have some summer days to put something silly in the world, to swing in your hammock and to enjoy gentle showers before "Whoosh - shiver-" summer's gone!

  1. Very intrigued by those two (?) trucking poetry books! And quite delighted by Shel Silverstein. Very tempted to write something silly right now!

  2. Those library sales are awesome! Glad you found some good ones, and love what you shared. "Put something in" isn't so familiar, love it!

  3. Wow! You found some good ones! I see a little grandma reading time in your future!I still have A CHILD'S GARDEN OF VERSE, one of the first poetry books I remember ever hearing, given to me by dad's mother.

  4. Such fun, like a treasure hunt, going to a bin sale. If only I had time to lay on a hammock. People used to do that before the internet...

  5. Yeah. That "Whoosh--shiver" is very real. I can't believe the back to school displays are in stores already!!

  6. Lucky finds there - a reward for volunteering indeed. I do love Shel Siverstein, and have this collection which I picked up on a discard table too.

  7. Library sales are the best for connecting not only with books, but with the book lovers who haunt them! What a nice collection you found! I especially enjoyed the first poem with the push to "Put something silly in the world/that ain't been there before." I can all too easily relate to the blink-and-it's-gone feel to the last poem. I'm eking every bit of warmth and enjoyment out of my Maine summer while it lasts. Hope your summer is filled with more books, silliness, hammocks, chirping birds and budding flowers
