Watching my almost eighteen month old grandson Jack interact with the world is exciting. Every day brings new learning, whether it's adding new animal sounds to his repertoire, driving his car (in reverse only), or increasing his fluency with books.
When I was reading a book on Thursday, Jack took it away from me. He promptly sat down on the floor, checked out the cover, looked at a few pages of print, and closed the book to examine the back cover. I was thrilled to see this fluency with books.
And later the same day we read the new board books that I had picked up at the library. When we finished Loud Lion, Quiet Mouse, Jack disappeared into the other room. I was amazed when he returned with a puzzle piece of a lion that he promptly placed on the cover of the book beside the illustrated lion.
I love watching this young man interact with books and discover the world around him. And watch out, he has a gentle but ferocious roar to match that lion figure too!
He is precious. I love how you are watching every single detail of his interaction with books. Happy reading, Jack!
ReplyDeleteThis is so fun! I love that you are spending time watching him become a reader, and reading with him! Lucky Jack, lucky you!
ReplyDeleteGreat post. The details that you have included about his matching the animals capture the moment well. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a sweet post and it makes me think fondly of when my kiddos were this age. I love how you chronicle Jack. 18 months is such a fun age.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet observation and I can hear the joy in our voice. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYour grandkid slices are so exciting!
ReplyDeleteYeah, Jack! it is so wonderful to see his reading readiness moves, Ramona. I placed your digital into Sense-sational Spring Gallery and keep plugging away trying to get it ready for the unveiling.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just wonder what they think in those little minds of theirs? I have always been fascinated with child development! I see he has great tastes in books, too! Your little guy just gets cuter each day!
ReplyDeleteSmart boy and he kind of looks like a little lion. :) How can one feel bad about the world when a creature like Jack exists? Thank you! xo
ReplyDeleteYour post is so filled with love and acknowledgment of the miracle of learning. It's almost like you let us peek into Jack's thinking. It's an amazing journey for each and every child.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story!!! I, too, love watching kids interact with books. I also love thinking about what is going on in their brains when they make connections, like Jack did with the lion book and the lion puzzle. Children are amazing! And you are such a lucky grandma to get so much time with him!!!!
