My lucky streak began Monday evening at the mailbox. No, I hadn't won the lottery. But as my husband flipped through the mail, he mentioned that one package felt like a book. I knew I hadn't ordered any books recently, but this package was addressed to me.
And that's when I remembered the email I received from Jan Godown Annino on March 1. The comment I had left on Bookseedstudio's February 21st blog post resulted in my winning a copy of the book What If...? Then We... by Rebecca Kai Dotlich and illustrated by Fred Koehler.
I knew this was a book I would love when I read the words on the first page: "For every WHAT IF, the imagination creates a possibility, and in that possibility lives a story."
I tucked the book into my book bag to share with grandson Jack. I think Jack's favorite page was "WHAT IF . . . something really big and really scary happened?" He loved pointing to the BIG waves on the page, and I loved the reassuring words that followed on the next two pages: "THEN WE would whistle and hold hands until . . . it wasn't as big or as scary." There's nothing luckier than having a grandson in your lap as you read a book that is filled with imagination, adventure and possibility. (For the middle part of my lucky streak, stop by and read tomorrow's post.)
Fantastic!!!! Loved this slice. Thanks Ramona
ReplyDeleteNeeded this today. Reading with my daughter is one of my favorite things. This was smile-worthy. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteOh! Thank you for sharing our book with Jack. And I love that he loves the scary/hold hands & whistle page. In life, there is always someone to hold hands with when troubles or frightening things are in our lives, right? Hello to Jack xo
ReplyDeleteThis is why I never comment on blogs. I never do it right. This was from Rebecca, but it says I am Unknown. (Well, which is partly true!) :)
ReplyDeleteRebecca, thanks for leaving a comment and just so you know, you're not unknown by me. See my comment on Jan's post to read my connections with you: https://bookseedstudio.wordpress.com/2019/02/21/what-if-then-we-rebecca-kai-doltich-fred-koehler-picture-book-giveaway/
DeleteYou are too sweet. I'm just seeing this. Makes my heart happy to know you (and others here) know and like my work. I have had to great luck to meet and work with many people I see here ... more connections and poetry bonding in the future, I hope! xoR
DeleteNice - what fun to have a new book to share!
ReplyDeleteGreat quote: "For every WHAT IF, the imagination creates a possibility, and in that possibility lives a story." Thanks for sharing. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat to find a book in your mailbox! I always feel so lucky when I win a book giveaway! Given how many books I buy, you wouldn't think one extra one given away would mean so much, but it does!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love when I win a book. And this one sounds wonderful! Then I saw that you won the commenting challenge too, is that right???
ReplyDeleteYes, it was an exciting streak of luck!
DeleteThis slice is just filled with lucky moments and a sense of loving opportunities. Enjoy the book and Jack.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I have to get the book but second I love how you crafted the lucky streak and left me with a cliff hanger!
ReplyDeleteWhat if .... I waved at you Ramona?
ReplyDeletea n d
You waved back! Fun post! Lovely about the "Unknown" Rebecca :) commenting here. A joy to hear about grandson Jack's reaction to the "big & scary" scenario. I needed a smile today & this is it, plus more - will carry though the weekend!
