SOL 2/31: A Tale of Three Cheese Sticks! (Or the Care and Training of a Grandma)
I bring you my two year old grandson's interior thoughts (interpreted by my grandma heart) for today's slice:
"Oh no, it's not BIG! It's in two pieces. Everyone knows that a cheese stick has to be in one piece."
"Yes, it's in one piece now, but you don't take it out of the wrapper! And it won't work if you put the wrapper back on. It won't stay on. It just falls off."
That's it, Grandma! You've got it. It took you three tries, but you finally mastered the art of cheese stick prep. Cheese stick in one piece, plastic wrapper peeled back so I can take small bites and pass it back to you for additional peeling as I eat. The third time was the charm! Now, how will we explain the bag of opened cheese sticks to Mom? Maybe, you just need to eat a lot of cheese for lunch today."
Whew! Who knew that lunchtime could be such a challenge? This week marked three weeks since I have watched Jack. My eleven day trip to Italy combined with a bad cold on my arrival home kept me away for an additional week. And you know what? I think he's been busy growing into a perfect two year old who knows what he wants and doesn't hesitate to make it known. Skills that will definitely be useful as he approaches his impending status as a big brother!
I chuckled when I read this and thought back to many moments with our grandkids. They all have a mind of their own, don't they?
ReplyDeleteComing into his own...love it! It sounds like he'll be a terrific big brother :)
ReplyDeleteThat's great! Can you imagine how he will be when he really knows a lot :)

Children are the best teachers. Thanks for sharing this episode.
ReplyDeleteTwo-year-olds really are so decisive - they know how a thing ought to be, and yes - they don't mind telling it! A charming slice of truth.
ReplyDeleteAh a little man who understands that it is all in the presentation.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet conversation from this little man! I love two year old logic!
ReplyDeleteI think that is called leadership characteristics! What fun for you!
ReplyDeletePerfect slice of life, the kind you want to always want to remember!
ReplyDeleteOh the lessons from the wisdom of toddlers! Just today my husband was reflecting on how the older he gets, the less he realizes he knows. I think we need some grandchildren to share their wisdom with us!
ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious! A two year old's rules can sometimes be a little challenging!
ReplyDeleteSo symbolic--you'll be peeling back the wrapping of life at just the pace to keep him moving forward. I read much into this moment.
