As soon as we were herded onto a bus (all 44 of us), we were off for our first scheduled stop - the San Sebastian catacombs located right on the Appian Way. I jokingly commented that we would resemble the walking dead since all of us were just off long, transatlantic flights. But before we made that stop, we had a surprise, unscheduled stop at the Basilica of St. Paul Outside-the-Walls!
After this stop (with time to grab a bite to eat), it was on to the Catacombs of Saint Sebastian, located just off the Appian Way.
I must admit that seeing the Appian Way thrilled my 6th grade ancient civilization teacher's heart!
Next, we headed to our hotel in Rome, home for the next three nights. Our busy day ended with dinner at our hotel where Nancy had her worst gluten-free meal (it appeared to be a frozen dinner)
before we finally headed to bed.
What beautiful sights you got to see!
