SOL: Sorrento and the Isle of Capri, Days 4 & 5

Tuesday & Wednesday - February 12-13, 2019

My earlier post, Rome in Three Days, summarized the architectural and artistic wonders that we experienced in Rome. Our next two days showcase the natural beauty of Italy as we head down the coast to Sorrento and visit the island of Capri.

We departed Rome on Tuesday afternoon, February 12, after spending the morning at the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. We were scheduled for a stop at Pompeii before our evening arrival in Sorrento. But due to an accident and heavier than usual traffic, we missed our scheduled slot for the Pompeii tour. Luckily, our tour guide was able to move our Pompeii tour to another day.

Our late afternoon drive to Sorrento was breathtakingly exquisite, something we might have missed if we had made our scheduled stop in Pompeii. All these pics were snapped from our moving bus.

Here we are in beautiful Sorrento,
with time for a little exploration before and after dinner.

On Wednesday morning we were up and out early for the ferry ride
to Capri. It was windy and cool, so we appreciated our layers.

There's something very lovely about
a bell tower and a clock, especially when
the clock is rendered in yellow and blue.

Our tour book described the island of Capri as "an island
of seduction. It is four square miles of sharp lava blanketed
with lush green foliage and white cube houses surrounded
by sparkling deep blue and green waters."
We were not disappointed!

Lunch included this view and a delicious
salad that was much appreciated by everyone.
We loved exploring shops and the work of local artisans.
The three famous faraglioni in the Bay of Naples,
off the island of Capri.

I spotted this cat, waiting patiently for someone to let her in,
as we headed back to our ferry.

 Gelato before dinner!

Dinner was at O'Parrucchiano, a charming restaurant in Sorrento.
Our waiter actually picked Nancy up for a picture, but she won't let me post that pic
