SOL 26/31: Book Spine Poem

I thought it was Leigh Anne who turned my thoughts to book spine poems this week. Well, maybe it was Elisabeth, Nope again! I will check one more slicer and promise to write my post without knowing who inspired me to do book spine poetry. Eureka! It was Terje.

Knowing how book leads onto book (Did you catch my nod to Robert Frost there?), I limited myself to two shelves of books for this poem.

The Search for Joyful

Italy in Mind

Copper Sun

By the Lake

A Fall of Marigolds

This Tender Land

Random wandering thoughts:

Did you notice there are six books in my poem? That was intentional, this is day 6 of my countdown to the end of the month. I already had plans for Day 4 and Day 2, but I just figured out my Day 5 and my Day 3 post. I have never before planned four days of slices in advance!

The two shelves (I limited myself to so that I wouldn't drag books from all over my house, like I've done in the past) are filled with books that I have never read, but want to read. Have you read any of the six titles I chose for my poem? Do you have a recommendation?

It's 3:15 am. Time for me to get back to sleep.

This is my eleventh year of participating in the March Slice of Life Story Challenge. This year I'll be mining my memories (some of the time) for stories to share.

  1. I was just about to go back to sleep after being awake and slicing at 2:30 a.m. when my son woke up and asked me to come make breakfast for him. Gah!!!! I love the idea of limiting yourself to two shelves for a book spine poem. I get overwhelmed and spend two hours collecting books from all over the house--which totally defeats the purpose of a quick idea for a slice! I have a long list of slicing ideas I still wanted to try this month so I'm not sure what the last 5 days will bring. Maybe I'll actually continue slicing on Tuesdays now that I have so many ideas!

  3. What a fun way to mark the countdown, Ramona! I also love how you incorporate your love of reading and writing while giving nods to other writers and poets. Such a compelling spine poem, too. Makes me long for vacation!

  5. Oh, this is a cool idea! I love the books you chose. Such evocative titles. I've never read any of these, but now I'm intrigued and will check some out! I'm also impressed you have some of your final slices planned out - I definitely am scrambling :)

  6. This is my first exposure to a Book Spine Poem. What a fascinating idea! I love it! I will probably be the one spending hours on this soon because books suck me in and I lose all track of time.

  7. First, I can't believe that you are up in the middle of the night writing spine poems! Holy cow! I've known about spine poems for years, but have never actually written one! I think it's because I think it would create even more chaos in my house than there already is! This one turned out great! I haven't read any of these, but am going to be checking them out!

  8. Yes, such a fine book spine poem, I haven't read any of those books, but some of the titles sound very tempting! How great that you're doing a countdown and now most of it is in place. Must be very satisfying!
