What do you collect?
If you read Monday's post, then you know that I collect snow people and bunnies. I also collect books, far too many of them, and even though I buy fewer books than I used to, I can't resist scanning the shelves of our local library's Friends of the Library Book Sale. Recently, I found Anxious People by Fredrik Backman, our book club's read for April. And the cost? A mere $2! When I finish reading it, I'll donate it to one of the Little Free Libraries I frequent.
But my favorite thing to collect is words! I have several blank books that I've used to collect inspiring words and some of those words come from fellow slicers. My favorite book is one that I won as part of the 2014 SOL Writing Challenge. It's a handmade book from fellow slicer, Girl Griot who blogs at If you want kin, your must plant kin. (I saw her at our Zoom slicer gathering this past Sunday morning. If you can sign up for the next one, you should! It's a delight to meet other slicers and see faces to go with blog names.)
In order of their appearance in the book:
What a beautiful idea -- a book of curated words! I love the words you chose and the words you chose to describe them.
ReplyDeleteOh fun to have a notebook of words. I often stick quotes in my personal journal but This notebook seems like a great idea.
ReplyDeleteYour blank book is a treasure - a treasure trove! I love having the glimpses into the words you collect...I do much the same in my daily journal (a spiral notebook), cutting and pasting and writing my favorite snippets. I especially loved the Helen Frost poem!! Thank you for this.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of collecting, especially quotes. Sadly, I don't do it enough. It's one of those things I wish I did... and plan to someday!
ReplyDeleteRamona! Clearly I was totally meant to visit your blog today and see this lovely post. Your pleasure in the journal you won makes me so happy, and I love knowing it's full of such wonderful quotes! I am in the middle of writing my slice for today, and I've mentioned you in it, which is what had me stop writing and come over to see what you were posting. I like that nice little circle!
ReplyDeleteHi. We met on the zoom call Sunday! I also keep a journal and try to jot down interesting finds. I don't trust my memory. I loved reading what you've saved. I just started a pretty pink one for the SOLSC 2022! It's so great that you have a handmade journal from 2014. Now, that is a keepsake.
ReplyDeleteI am in AWE of this word collection. It makes me want to do the same thing.
