Kim is hosting our monthly Spiritual Journey gathering for December.
Thanks, Kim, for the warm endorsement of Katherine May's Wintering:The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times. It seems like the kind of book that one would want to own in order to mark favorite passages. I'm adding it to my Christmas wish list. I enjoyed reading quotes from the book at goodreads and discovered this quote that definitely resonated with me:
"I often turn to children's books at times like these, when I'm yearning to escape into a world that is beautifully rendered and complex, yet soothingly familiar."

Winter is the Warmest Season written and illustrated by Lauren Stringer
books last longer, and
hugs squeeze the warmest."
Kim's post was brim with words to love. I send you this poetic greeting lifted from her SJT post, with a couple of phrases added by me, for this Poetry Friday:
A DECEMBER BLESSING
In this wintering season
may you be blessed with
rest,
full hope,
anticipation,
warmth,
peace,
deep comfort,
golden silence,
and space your heart needs
to revel in books
in the sweet, snug nook of home,
in the nestled bliss
of nowhere else to be.
Spiritual Journey, December 2024
Carol has this week’s Poetry Friday roundup at The Apples in My Orchard.
That is lovely what you took from Kim's post, Ramona. What a beautiful sentiment and a boatload of good wishes in that. "nook of home" is such a lovely thought.
ReplyDeleteRamona, I am so deeply touched by your poem from the post. Thank you for sharing all the photos ~ and I'm thrilled that your son read your blog and knew what you wanted! That book looks so inviting. Yesterday, I shipped 12 books to my grandchildren in South Carolina, asking their mother to wrap them and let them open one each night to read their way down to Christmas. I wish I had seen these - they look amazing, so I'm tucking the titles away and will plan to do the same thing with a more intentionally curated list next year. I love what you have done here in your post!

ReplyDeleteGlad I thought to stop by today! Love all these book titles… and that gentle hug if a poem.

Ramona, thank you for offering so many wonderful books. Your poem to honor Kim's thoughts is full of lovely thoughts from you and her. May we all be blessed with nestled bliss of nowhere else to be but home tucked with books and grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteThird time's a charm, as I once again recommend George Winston's album WINTER for your spiritual journey!
ReplyDeleteI've replied this way to other posts this PF time, Ramona. I have Wintering and have barely started it, but it is serendipity that it happened just this week. Thanks for the recs, some new to me, and for the beautiful blessings for us from you! Wishing the same to you this holiday season and for the new year, too!
ReplyDeleteRamona, thank you for such a great book list. Your poem is lovely. It captures the essence of Kim's post with your own additions to this beautiful blessing. Wishing you all the blessings of this Christmas season. Bob
ReplyDeleteOh, I really love that found poem, Ramona. Perfect final line!

DeleteThis post is lovely, Ramona. I love your picture book recommendations. Winter is the Warmest Season was one of my teaching favorites.
ReplyDeleteMe too! We did quilt squares (out of paper, of course), for a communal sharing of why winter was warmest for each of us.
