Linda Mitchell is hosting our Spiritual Journey Thursday for August. She asked us to write about what's in our hearts and in our spirits. You can read Linda's post and that of other Spiritual Journey travelers by clicking on Linda's blog, Another Word Edgewise. She shares a delightful summer gratitude post. Thanks for hosting, Linda!
I'm a glimmer seeker! It seems especially warranted when it's so easy to feel despair about our current world. Here's a definition for glimmers from the Calm blog:
Since sharing glimmers is a way to help us find more of them, here's a glimmer from Wednesday's walk:
I was on my morning walk when twin fawns darted across the road just a few feet in front of me. Grabbing my phone from my pocket, I snap pics of them looking at me. Or were they just looking at their mom in the bushes across the road? Three worried walkers stand in the road concerned for these two littles separated from their mother. A walker joins us from the other direction. Mom doesn't come because she's with a third sibling (triplets!). The other walkers continue on their way. I walk backwards (probably not wise to do in one's seventies), watching to see if the other two will cross the road to join the daredevil siblings. They don't come, but the adventurous two finally retrace their steps across the road to mother and sibling. I breathe a deep sigh of relief and turn around to continue my walk!
This encounter was definitely a micro moment of joy, from the moment the deer bounded across the road in front of me, to the fellow walkers who worried with me about these little guys separated from their mama, to their eventual return to Mama and sibling across the road. What glimmers have you noticed recently?

And now a moment of joy for me too! Thank you for that...joy. My spirit feels it!
ReplyDeleteRamona, lovely recap of this sweet glimmer during your walk. I had a glimmer last weekend at the ocean in Bethany Beach, DE. I went down to the ocean because I was close enough that I just had to get in the water. (I can count on one hand the times I've swum in the Atlantic.) I asked a woman if I could drop my things by her chair, and then went out in the water. When I came back, she was so friendly. She introduced herself, and we ended up talking longer than I had been swimming. A serendipitous conversation of joy.
ReplyDeleteNothing is better than a friendly conversation of joy with a random person. Serendipity, indeed!
DeleteRamona, I love the idea of micro moments of joy. Finding these small moments is really important on those days when we are feeling down or when we feel like the world is closing in on us. Those glimmers of joy can and do brighten our day. Bob
ReplyDeleteRamona: Watching for glimmers is wonderful. My glimmer yesterday was time spent with friends. Good food, a game, much laughter. May your glimmers bless you. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteRamona, I love that you are a glimmer seeker and shared your glimmer moment with us. Now, I want to be a glimmer seeker so I can turn the grief light off for the time that the family is on an ocean experience first to the Long Island beach and then to Cape May, NJ beach. I know that it will remind me of my time at the beaches with Richard but I want to feel the blessings of life and find many glimmer moments. I thank you my friend for this moment and remember the encounter with a deer family (only2) that met me on the nature trail. I watched as I moved backward since I was alone but I shall never forget that close encounter. Do you remember that we talked about a Zoom meet-up for our group. I would like to explore that idea with you more. If I have time when I return from the family vacation, I will contact you.
ReplyDeleteOh Ramona, I love glimmers as micro moments. I was raised in Jesuit spirituality which is all about "finding God in all things." What a gorgeous glimpse of God in those creatures. :)
