Slice of Life: Nostalgia for the Past & Hope for the Future!

Today I join my fellow bloggers in "serving up a slice"
to the Tuesday Slice of Life (SOL) community.
Thanks to Stacey, Betsy, Dana, Beth, Kathleen, Deb, Lisa, and Melanie
for hosting this meeting place each Tuesday and nurturing our writing lives.

It's easy as I grow older to find myself occasionally pining for the good ole days.  I always feel this on election days because Washington state operates totally on a mail-in ballot system.   I miss going to the polling place.  I grew up in Oklahoma, and our home was a polling place for our neighborhood.  My Election Day Memories post that I wrote four years ago shares the hustle and bustle of an election day in my childhood home.  I miss adult memories of election day too.  "I miss chatting with neighbors as I stand in line, looking for my name in the big book, signing on the dotted line signifying I was there to cast my vote, and proudly wearing the 'I voted' sticker."  With all this nostalgia floating around for the good ole days, you can see why waking up to this pic made my day and filled my heart with hope!

  1. Completely mail in ballots? I can't imagine. There is something about physically going in to vote and standing there in line with your community. Hopeful that the results today are positive for the U.S.

  2. After seeing the lines, I think many would be in favor of mail in ballots. Love that pic of Teddy and dad!

  3. Interesting perspective. The last several elections in Estonia I have voted electronically not leaving home at all. From across the ocean these have been very bizarre elections. Curious as to how these elections turn out. Hopeful these results are positive for the world too.

  6. Thank you for voting! I'm sure it was hard to mail a ballot: will it get there, will it count? Wow. It's nice to be able to participate, however.

  8. I didn't know that about Washington. Interesting! I do think there's something to be said for voting in person, but in certain areas that also presents some difficulties. In my small town, there was no wait to vote, but others are waiting for hours.

  9. I can't imagine having voting take place in your house! Although when I was a kid, the tax collector for our small town worked out of her home. What a terrific picture of your boys, Ramona!

  10. We have everything here, Ramona, mail-in, early voting, and voting today! Love the picture, a bright light right now! I have loved going to the polls. But this time I elected to mail-in. I'm late because I've been with Imi, then watching the news. Wow, change is hard!

  11. What a great photo, Ramona. Election day was filled with hope, election late night a shocker, and the day after seems unreal. Have to have hope for the future.

  12. Wow, no polling stations? That seems efficient, and helps makes voting more accessible, but there's something so satisfying about walking into that little booth and making your mark on the piece of paper. I'd miss having that option!
