Celebrate This Week - Adventures on the east coast!

Join us each weekend for Celebrate This Week with Ruth Ayres.

When we pause to celebrate, we find the joy.
Discover. Play. Build.

A week filled with moments to celebrate and remember.

Nothing is better than spending time with a grown child to celebrate a birthday!  This week we traveled to VA to celebrate a 33rd birthday with our son and his family.  When your two children's birthdays are two years and one day apart, that means that one of those birthday celebrations is delayed until we're back in town.

Our past two days have been filled with fun - a visit to Cox Family Farm to celebrate pumpkins, slides, animals, and everything that is good about fall, a celebratory birthday dinner, and watching our grandson, Teddy, share his favorite books and tricks with us.

I finished a book for our adult book club.  It's one that many of you have already read, but I'm looking forward to our book club meeting and discussion of Colson Whitehead's The Underground Railroad.

I'm now reading Refugee by Alan Gratz.  I'm so glad I packed this second book for our trip.  The book flap refers to the "harrowing journeys" taken by three different kids, each in search of refuge.

I'm thinking that when I finish this book, I'll be ready for something a bit lighter.  My favorite genre to read is middle grade.
Any recommendations?

We enjoyed a FaceTime visit last night with grandson, Jack, showing us his latest trick - clapping!  And thinking about the joy it brings reminds me that we all need to celebrate more and clap more!
I'm happy that Ruth provides this space
for celebration each and every week.

Grandson Jack (who just learned to clap)
is also pulling up to everything!

  1. Oh, those boys, so delightful, and growing, growing! I love that look on Jack's face when standing, big boy! And Teddy's costume is darling. It's so nice you got to go to DC & hit great weather, too! I have The Underground Railroad, but still haven't read it. As for books, Wishtree is a recent favorite & I just read Giant Pumpkin Suite, an arc I had, just out, a sweet book but long! As always, I wish we could trade back & forth! Have a lovely next week, Ramona!

    1. I have The Giant Pumpkin Suite from the library, but Wishtree just arrived on my holds shelf. So given all I've heard about it, it will be my next read (once I finish Refugee). Let me know when you read The Underground Railroad. I'd love to chat with you about it.

  2. The little boys are adorable. So much to wonder, discover and learn all the time. Doesn't it feel that being around them makes you wonder, discover and learn too?

  3. Such precious grandchildren! I'm glad you are able to enjoy them. Did you read Beyond the Bright Sea or Train I Ride? I liked both of these a lot.

    1. Margaret, I've read both of those titles and love them both. Wishtree is on my holds shelf at the library, so it will be next up once I finish Refugee.
