SOL 18/31 Party Time!

Today I join my fellow bloggers in "serving up a slice"
Thanks to Stacey, Betsy, Beth, Kathleen, Deb, Melanie, and Lanny
for hosting this meeting place each day in March
and for nurturing our writing lives.

I came home from my book club retreat with a sore throat and all that comes along with it. After fulfilling my Sunday morning obligations, I took a nap and decided this was a perfect day for Leigh Anne's party. I went in search of it and promised myself that I couldn't click on any link until I found Leigh Anne's blog (I should have gone to my reading list since Leigh Anne's blog is one that I follow), but then I saw Deb's post that linked to the party and I didn't have to look any further.

A favorite book
I love how someone else snuck in three titles to the party. I'm bringing four titles! I returned yesterday from our yearly book club retreat. They only picked one of the titles I presented (and that's okay). So yesterday when I woke up early feeling too under the weather to join the early risers for a walk, I seated myself in Debora's beautiful living room with a view of the meadow and cracked open Britt Marie Was Here:  A Novel by Frederik Backman. I'm already in love with this book. I remember the character Britt Marie from Backman's earlier book. I'm bringing my current favorite nonfiction title, Dear Fahrenheit 451:  Love and Heartbreak in the Stacks by Annie Spence. I can't resist introducing my friends to my new favorite middle grade novel-in-verse, Macy McMillan and the Rainbow Goddess by Shari Green.  Finally, I'm bringing my new favorite picture book, Dear Girl, by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and her daughter, Paris Rosenthal. I asked my friend, Mallory, to open the wrapped copy I recently bought for her girls. I insisted that everyone at the retreat read it. I like to think that I hand sold a few copies! Get ready, Island Books, for some requests for this title.

A favorite person
That would have to be my friend, Denise, from Houston. I haven't seen her in ages, but she's the life of a party! She hasn't even returned my recent phone call, but I'm sure she won't be able to resist a party where she can meet my blogging friends.

A favorite food or beverage
I'm bringing Chocolate Bliss Cookies, my new favorite cookie. And of course, I'll bring milk because a good cookie is always accompanied by a cold glass of milk.

A favorite song
When I wrote an earlier post about the hymns my mother sang, I left one out. So I'll bring Kim Hopper's You Tube video of
"Love Lifted Me" for an old-fashioned sing along.

A surprise
Bookmarks for everyone! I love bookmarks and will bring a varied selection so that each attendee can go home with a bookmark.

  1. Books to look for, a fun friend, milk and cookies, and bookmarks for one and all to take home... this party is getting to be more and more fun !

  2. Cute! I love that you chose books from a variety of genres! And my mom has always sung hymns, which she learned from her grandmother, so I loved that too, although I don't know that particular hymn!

  3. I am so glad I stopped by today, because I missed Leigh Anne's original post. I LOVED Brit Marie Was Here. Have you read Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine? I just finished it and it reminded me of Brit Marie. I'm also curious about the recipe for Chocolate Bliss cookies. They sound divine. I'm so glad you came to the party. I think I'll add my goodies tomorrow.

  5. Chocolate Bliss cookies sounds like something my husband would love! And I love the idea of bringing bookmarks! I am so glad I could help you out today - that is one of the reasons why I do this slice! Plus it is fun to get to know other people! I will add you to the guess list.

  6. I hope you are starting to feel better. Or perhaps you are snuggled into the covers and reading. I'm keeping a list of books that sound intriguing to find at the library. I've added yours. I loved Dear Girl. I want to cry every time I think about Amy K. Rosenthal. I'm hoping one day I'll be in Seattle and we can party in life, instead of virtually.
