Returning for year nine of writing daily in March with my Slice of Life writer friends! Check out Two Writing Teachers for more slices of life occurring every day in March.
(Thanks to Laura Numeroff's If You Give a Mouse a Cookie for today's mentor text.)
If you wake up at 5 to write a slice of life . . .
you'll need to take a picture of the books you're writing about,
and when you pick up your computer to write, you'll notice the open window of a slicer asking for book recommendations,
and so you'll open your book club list to help you remember recent books you've read (book titles can be most elusive),
and then you'll go downstairs to retrieve your book journal because you want to mention some middle grade favorites too,
and when you get downstairs, you'll decide that graham crackers and milk are the perfect early morning accompaniment for writing a slice,
and when you get back upstairs, you'll resolve that the post you were intending to write can wait for another day (you have the picture to remind you) because you'd rather read than write if you have graham crackers and milk!
I hope you enjoyed the graham crackers:) You inspired me to write about my latest book club book. My neighborhood book club met over Zoom last night to discuss Educated. I have many thoughts about this book. Maybe slicing about it will help me process them.
ReplyDeleteSuch a clever post. I love how you took the idea of If you Give a Mouse a Cookie....So often, I start one thing on the computer and then and then...
ReplyDeleteYou capture this habit so well. I like that it had a happy ending, too! Enjoy your snack and book!
Oh now I wish I had graham cracker! I love this list of how your early morning went. I sat down to write and now am reading and responding to posts not writing. So funny!
ReplyDeleteThis post has made my entire day, maybe my whole week. I love the structure, and its ode to If you give a mouse a cookie.
ReplyDeleteTruly, beautifully done.
If you give Ramona a book...
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever way to build your post.
This is such a lovely post, Ramona. I agree with previous posters - so clever!!
ReplyDeleteThis made me laugh! Especially since I sat down around 3:00 to write my post and still have not written a word!
ReplyDeleteI didn’t know this Slice was coming.. .but I picked up graham crackers on impulse (they weren’t on my list) when I ventured out to get some groceries this morning! Now I’m glad I did, since I don’t plan on going shopping again for a long while and I’d surely be craving graham crackers even more if I didn’t have some. Fun slice, Laura, I mean, Ramona.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy those graham crackers, Diane!
DeleteVery nicely done, Ramona. From one slice, you led us to another thought and then to another, until you nicely composed a new piece of writing.
ReplyDeleteI loved this so much. Brilliant way to structure and I have to figure out a way to try this myself this month!
