SOL 17/31 & Poetry Friday: Book Spine Poetry with Board Books

It's Slice of Life and Poetry Friday. After my book spine poem earlier in the week, I looked around and wondered if I could compose one from board books at our house. Only two of these are library books. Guess which book is the all-time favorite? (See answer below the poem.)

 Heavy Haulers

Oh My Oh My Oh Dinsosaurs!

OLIVIA counts

Ten Little Ladybugs.

The Bear Went Over the Mountain

Into the Ocean.

Digger Man

For Your Smile.

Time for Bed

Wynken, Blynken, and Nod.

Digger Man is the all-time favorite of our twenty-month-old grandson. Sometimes we read it five times. One of his favorite words is "Again!

Here are a few pics of our little guy enjoying books. I captured the last pic of him reading to himself at his brother's birthday celebration in January.

This is my twelfth year to write a slice of life each day during the month of March.  Thank you Two Writing Teachers for creating this challenge and providing the space and support for us year after year. And thanks to this magnificent community for sharing stories with me and encouraging my writing life.

  2. Book spine poetry!!! I haven't done this in so long, thank you for the inspiration. And to use my toddlers' books would be so fun!! I love catching my 22 month old reading on his own; it's the sweetest thing. What a cutie you have there!

  3. SO. VERY. PRECIOUS! Those photos melt my heart completely! You arranged those titles so well - there's a flow to them. Micah (16 mos) loves Goodnight Moon - she moos on the page with the cow - and Itsy Bitsy Spider, because we sing it to her. She loves music. We have sing it over and over. She picks up books and mimics reading with babble, and opens a hymnal, trying to sing. Little ones are so utterly amazing.

  4. Such a great collection! I have a pretty sizeable collection myself; however, the littles have learned that if they ask to tak a book home with them, the answer will always be yes.

  8. Ramona, how fun! I love your poem, and the sweet little sentences you built in your spine poem, like "OLIVIA counts / Ten Little Ladybugs." and "The Bear Went Over the Mountain / Into the Ocean." I haven't heard of Digger Man. I'm going to find that for my 9-month old grandson.

  11. Oh, my HEART! That last picture of a little completely engrossed in a book, all alone behind the chair! LOVE! Your spine poem was spot on, especially "OLIVIA counts/Ten Little Ladybugs." But "The Bear Went Over the Mountain/Into the Ocean." cracked me up!

  15. 'Spine' tingly terrific poem, Ramona. I can see why you read Digger Man as many times as that wee little fella said, "Again!". Pure sweetness. :)

  17. Ramona, I did not have a chance to read this PF/Slice of Life. It is delightful. Someday your little grand will love to hear this story. I can see that he does love reading books-something so wonderful. I did guess Digger Man I'm off to write my slice about my little grandgirls on Easter Sunday. I hope your Easter was filled with joy.
