Life's Little Mysteries!

SOLSC  #25 - Slice of Life is sponsored every Tuesday by Stacey and Ruth from Two Writing Teachers.  For the month of March, I've joined the challenge to post a slice of life daily.

Today I finished the last of my winter chores.   After packing away the Christmas books yesterday, I retrieved the boxes of books to return to the empty shelves, but they wouldn't fit!

How did these books multiply during the time that they were stashed under the table in the guest bedroom?  Did my books become prolific (our word of the week this past week) during their hiatus from their regular shelves? This is not a good outcome for I do not want my books to be productive while they are stashed in boxes.

I must admit this mystery did force me into some new weeding of my collection.  After adding bookshelves to the family room, the upstairs hallway, the downstairs hallway, and the nook by my desk, if a book doesn't fit on a shelf somewhere, it's time to weed.   Who knows?  Maybe I could weed the picture book collection enough to keep the Christmas books out permanently.  But that's a chore for another day.

For now, I'm off to sit in my favorite chair and ponder some of life's other little mysteries while savoring a cup of tea and the Sunday paper.

  1. I like the idea of books multiplying on their own. It is a mystery, unless you received books as gifts. I am soon running out of room for my books, so I will have to get creative. I shall ponder that problem with a beverage also. :-)

  3. Books proliferating? That is s happy thought, if the books produce more books that are equal in quality. Where to out them is a question at my house, too. I can weed them out, but if ai go to th e local book exchange place, I invariably come home with more books. Sheesh!

  4. There are books in every room at my house as well. At school, my room is full of books, which I have to move this summer to move to a new room (not looking forward to the move with boxes).

  5. Prolific books on "hiatus from their regular shelves" I got this mental image of books gone wild like on spring break. These books were out of control. All the while you thought they were behaving themselves under the table in the guest bedroom. Fun to read.

  6. As a former librarian I know that weeding makes your see what should be treasured. But weeding is tough to do when you've loved them!

  7. You sound so comfortable with book weeding! I am a book hoarder... I need to take lessons from you. I have dreams of a floor-to-ceiling library in my home someday. The problem is, I am a renter of small spaces currently, and move often, and moving my too-man-to-count boxes of books is never a fun chore. Do you think it will ever lead me to a place of becoming a healthy book weeder?
