SOL 4/31 & Spiritual Journey First Thursday & Poetry Friday: God's Handwriting

Combining my Slice of Life post with Spiritual Journey Thursday and Poetry Friday to share photos and thoughts from recent walks and a favorite quote. This is a three-for-the-price-of-one post!

 Bloom

in the middle of the weeds

and last year's leaves

Savor the promise of pink

Saunter

by the school playground

even though the street lights are on

Discover

exuberant evidence that

 children are back in school

 Kiss the day goodbye

Embrace the evening sky.

- Ramona Behnke

“Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything that is beautiful;
for beauty is God’s handwriting—a wayside sacrament.
Welcome it in every fair face, in every fair sky, in every fair flower,
and thank God for it as a cup of blessing.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

  1. Ramona, your slice is uplifting. God's handwriting is evident in your walk. What a beautiful poem to accompany your photography. This morning reading the SJT slices and posts has been a wonderful opportunity to fill my mind with God's love and nature's beauty. Tonight, I shall embrace the evening sky and remember to save time for a short walk.

  4. "Wayside sacrament" - amazingly powerful phrase, perfectly capturing the bouquet of beauty you've shared here, Ramona. I also love the organization and flow of your poem interspersed with those magnificent photos (God's handwriting, indeed, even in the children's chalkwork). Those ending lines are so full of peace and gratitude - they've spilled over and have infused my day :)

  6. Your slice gives me hope and light even as the snow squall swims outside my window this afternoon. Spring and a fresh start are coming. Thanks

  7. Those photos give me hope on this gray, windy day. (Though yesterday, on my walk, I saw daffodils starting to spout up from the earth.)
